Description

From 31 July 2010, the Emmaus Walk Men’s Fellowship will embark on a book study of “The Masculine Mandate: God’s Calling to Men” by Richard D. Phillips.

There is a crying need in the church today for men to be men. But competing visions for what a man is to be—some growing out of popular culture and others arising from flawed understanding—are only exacerbating the confusion for men.

The Bible alone has the answer for what men are to be in the eyes of our Creator.  “The Masculine Mandate” is a sound exegesis of biblical passages relating to biblical masculinity.  It is a highly practical biblical exposition—teaching not only what men are to think but what we are to be

In Genesis, God commissioned Adam to “work” and “keep” the garden of Eden.  These twin tasks of “working” and “keeping” form a template for manhood, which, when carried out with diligence, provides dignity to men, service to mankind, and glory to God.  Applying this template to men’s various roles, the book shows how men are called to lead, to nurture and protect our wives with love, to disciple and discipline our children with grace, and to serve the church of Jesus Christ.

Through the study of this book and the Bible over the next few months, we seek to be challenged, and ultimately find the clarity of understanding that empowers us to fulfill our God-given roles as leaders, husbands, fathers and churchmen.

For a preview of the book, please visit http://toworkandtokeep.wordpress.com for links to the first two chapters.

We pray that you will commit to join us as we walk together on this journey through the Scriptures, to understand and live our mandate as men, the way God intends.

Beginning 31 July 2010,  Saturdays at 6.30 a.m. in Wesley Hall (BRMC)

Books will be provided free due to generous donations.
