SUMMARY:Season of Advent
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS IT?\n“Advent” refers to a “coming”. As the start of the Christian calendar\, it is a time of expectation. We anticipate the Christmas celebration of the Incarnation of Jesus\, while looking forward to his second advent. \nWHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?\nEven though the work of the cross is complete\, all Creation (including ourselves) is still in the process of being perfected. We learn to groan with Creation amidst the pains of life\, looking to the day when Jesus will come again in final victory\, making all things new. \nTHE FOUR SUNDAYS OF ADVENT\nDifferent themes are assigned to each of the four Sundays: Christ Coming in Final Victory (1st Sunday)\, John the Baptist (2nd and 3rd Sundays) and the events preceding the birth of Jesus (4th Sunday). \nWHAT DO WE DO?\nAdvent is a time of preparing ourselves\, through reflecting on how Israel anticipated the coming of the Messiah. We practise self-denial\, imitating the example of Jesus in his first Incarnation. \nPurple is used to signify repentance and royalty. Blue is sometimes used to signify hope. \nFour candles are lit over the four Sundays\, each representing Christ our Hope\, the Way\, our Joy\, and our Peace. \nCHRISTMAS CAROLS\nJust as we do not sing of resurrection on Maundy Thursday or Good Friday\, it is not usually appropriate to sing Christmas carols during Advent. It is about waiting with longing and anticipation\, rather than the joy of Jesus’ birth. This can be hard in modern culture\, with malls playing carols as early as November\, but it teaches us to wait in the imperfection where the world downplays it. Waiting amplifies our joy on Christmas and its twelve days\, when we finally sing these carols. \nREFERENCES \nThe United Methodist Book of Worship. DESCRIPTION:Pickleball sessions will be cancelled from 23 Nov to 28 Dec due to the unavailability of courts. \nJoin us for weekly pickleball sessions for a time of inter-generational bonding with our church family! \nWhether you’re a seasoned player or a complete beginner\, everyone is welcome—children\, youth\, adults\, and seniors alike. We’ll teach newcomers the game\, and equipment (paddles\, balls\, and nets) will be provided. \n🧒 Free for children 12 and under\, & seniors 55 and over💵 $4 per session for all others (payable via QR code at the entrance)👟 Sports attire with non-marking court shoes required🚫 No food in the Auditorium. Bring your own water/drinks \nParticipation is only open to BRMC members. \nVolunteer with us! \n\n\nWe need committed volunteers to help set up and return all equipment at the end of each session.  If we can get 12 volunteers\, we will roster 2 volunteers per session.  Commitment will then be once every 6 weeks. \nWhatsApp Chat Group\nAll participants will be placed in a BRMC Pickleball WhatsApp group for ease of communication.\n\n\nRegister your interest
