SUMMARY:Ordinary Time after Pentecost
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS IT?\nOrdinary Time refers to the time between the two cycles of Advent-Christmas-Epiphany and Lent-Easter-Pentecost. They are marked as “After Epiphany” and “After Pentecost” respectively. \nWHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?\nOrdinary Time itself has no central theme\, but Scripture readings during After Pentecost often emphasise the Kingdom of God and the reign of Jesus\, through the work of his body\, the Church. We learn that the ministry of Jesus to the world continues through us\, and we minister out of the blessed hope we have of his glorious return. \nNOTHING ORDINARY ABOUT ORDINARY TIME\n“Ordinary” comes from the word “ordinal”\, referring to how the weeks are counted in order (e.g.\, 1st Sunday After Pentecost\, 2nd Sunday After Pentecost\, and so on). \nWHAT DO WE DO?\nWorship during this time generally adopts themes more related to the sermon series than the season itself. The season is punctuated by special holy days\, the source of the word “holiday”. \nGreen is used to signify growth and life. \nSpecial Days are observed\, including TRAC Conference Sunday. \nBOOKENDING THE ORDINARY\nThe first Sunday of After Pentecost is Trinity Sunday\, focusing on the doctrine of the Holy Trinity\, a crucial underlying statement of faith for all Christians. The last Sunday of After Pentecost is Christ the King Sunday\, focusing on how Christ reigns over all Creation as King\, and that this king will one day come back in glory – leading us back into the Advent anticipation. \nREFERENCES \nSenn\, Frank C. In this practical\, biblical session\, Rev Barnabas Chong will explore how Christian men can remain faithful to Christ in the marketplace\, standing firm against challenges related to integrity\, ambition\, success\, compromise\, relationships\, and the pursuit of wealth. Discover how God’s Word equips believers to honour Him and be a faithful witness wherever He has placed them. \nAbout the Speaker \nRev Barnabas Chong served in pastoral ministry for over 25 years in the Methodist Church\, following his early ministry in an independent church\, before retiring at the end of 2024. He now serves as an itinerant minister\, preaching and teaching wherever the Lord leads\, with a focus on worship\, discipleship\, and intercession\, and a desire to see church growth and revival. DESCRIPTION:Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith\, just as you were taught\, abounding in thanksgiving. — Colossians 2:7 (NRSV) \nFor the first time\, the Discipleship & Nurture (D&N) Ministry will be conducting a second run of the “Growing as Disciples In Christ” (GDIC) programme from July 2026\, starting with Module 1. \nBased on The Navigators: The 2:7 Series\, GDIC is a 3-module discipleship journey designed to strengthen believers in their walk with God through Scripture reading\, prayer\, Scripture memorisation\, and sharing of personal faith. \nModule 1\, themed “Growing Strong in God’s Family”\, runs over 11 weeks on Saturdays\, 10am – 12pm\, mostly via Zoom with selected onsite sessions.
