SUMMARY:Ordinary Time after Pentecost
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS IT?\nOrdinary Time refers to the time between the two cycles of Advent-Christmas-Epiphany and Lent-Easter-Pentecost. They are marked as “After Epiphany” and “After Pentecost” respectively. \nWHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?\nOrdinary Time itself has no central theme\, but Scripture readings during After Pentecost often emphasise the Kingdom of God and the reign of Jesus\, through the work of his body\, the Church. We learn that the ministry of Jesus to the world continues through us\, and we minister out of the blessed hope we have of his glorious return. \nNOTHING ORDINARY ABOUT ORDINARY TIME\n“Ordinary” comes from the word “ordinal”\, referring to how the weeks are counted in order (e.g.\, 1st Sunday After Pentecost\, 2nd Sunday After Pentecost\, and so on). \nWHAT DO WE DO?\nWorship during this time generally adopts themes more related to the sermon series than the season itself. The season is punctuated by special holy days\, the source of the word “holiday”. \nGreen is used to signify growth and life. \nSpecial Days are observed\, including TRAC Conference Sunday. \nBOOKENDING THE ORDINARY\nThe first Sunday of After Pentecost is Trinity Sunday\, focusing on the doctrine of the Holy Trinity\, a crucial underlying statement of faith for all Christians. The last Sunday of After Pentecost is Christ the King Sunday\, focusing on how Christ reigns over all Creation as King\, and that this king will one day come back in glory – leading us back into the Advent anticipation. \nREFERENCES \nSenn\, Frank C. SUMMARY:Day of Pentecost
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS IT?\nA celebration of when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples\, fifty days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. “Pentecost” stems from a Greek term meaning “fiftieth day”. \nWHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?\nWe give thanks to God for the gift of the Holy Spirit\, enabling us to share in and continue the work of Jesus in the world. Without the Holy Spirit\, we would never have the grace our strength to pursue holiness in our life and in the world. \nTHE DOVE AND TONGUES OF FIRE\nThe dove and the tongues of fire are two common symbols of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was baptised\, the Holy Spirit descended upon him “like a dove” (Mt 3:16; Mk 1:10; Lk 3:22; Jn 1:32). At the Upper Room\, the Holy Spirit descended upon the disicples like “tongues of fire” (Ac 2:3). \nWHAT DO WE DO?\nBaptisms and Confirmations are sacramental acts in which the Holy Spirit is invoked upon the candidate – Pentecost is thus an appropriate time for baptisms\, and confirmations in particular. \nRed is used to signify the fire of the Holy Spirit and the blood of the martyrs in the Early Church \nConfirmations are often conducted \nTHE BIRTH OF THE CHURCH\nThe Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 is records the “birth” of the Church\, in the sense that it marks the start of the ministry of the Church. It marks the reversal of the confusion of languages at Babel in Gen 11\, because while different languages remain\, we are united now to proclaim God’s praise to the ends of the earth. \nREFERENCES \nTruscott\, Jeffrey A. SUMMARY:Year of Release CG Q&A (online)
DESCRIPTION:As BRMC looks ahead to the next 70 years of ministry\, we are launching the Year of Release – a pivotal church-wide call to action led by the RELEASE pillar to align our culture with God’s heart. This is a season where we ask: What does it mean for BRMC to be a church that brings the light of Christ into the darkness of the world – now and in the generations to come? We want every member to be an active participant in God’s redemptive work in the world – wherever He leads. \nOver the past months\, CG leaders and members have attended briefings to prepare for this journey. In the coming weeks\, each group will spend time discerning God’s leading on how to respond during the Year of Release. \nTo support this process\, we’re hosting a special: \nYear of Release CG Q&A Session \nDate: Tue\, 27 May \nTime: 8pm – 9.30pm \nLocation: Online (Zoom) \nWho it’s for: All Connect Group members \nThis session is an opportunity to ask questions\, gain clarity\, and catch the deeper vision behind this call to action. If you’re part of a CG\, we strongly encourage you to attend. \nSign up on the Church Center App \n  \nGet Involved \nIf you’re in a CG: Seek the Lord with your group. Attend the Q&A session. Be open to His prompting. \nIf you’re not in a CG yet: Join one and be part of this milestone season in BRMC’s journey. \nVisit the Year of Release website to learn more.

SUMMARY:Aldersgate SG 2025 Celebration Service
DESCRIPTION:Aldersgate Celebration is a call to worship God together as a Methodist family. This year we will explore what it means to love God through scriptural holiness. Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon will share with us on The Priesthood of All Believers (Celebration Service) and on Growing Together in Holiness (Lecture). \nDate: Sat\, 24 May 2025\nTime: 5pm to 7pm (Dinner provided after service)\nLocation: Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church (TA2)\, 61 Wishart Rd\, Singapore 098716\nSpeaker: Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon \nThe apostle Peter reminded his readers that “like living stones” they were “being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood” (1 Pet 2:5). The Protestant concept of the priesthood of all believers has been variously understood. We shall examine the bible passage on the priesthood of believers to discover what it means and what it does not mean. How can this teaching strengthen the way the church functions and encourage each church member to ask what role they play in this priesthood in the light of Scripture and Wesleyan teaching and practice. \nThere is no livestreaming for both the lecture and the Celebration Service; these are on-site only events and we’ll strongly encourage you to attend both sessions. \nRegister for the dinner after Celebration Service \nRegistration ends on 9 May 2025. \nVisit the Aldersgate website for more info \n

SUMMARY:Aldersgate SG 2025 Lecture: Growing Together in Holiness
DESCRIPTION:Aldersgate Celebration is a call to worship God together as a Methodist family. This year we will explore what it means to love God through scriptural holiness. Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon will share with us on The Priesthood of All Believers (Celebration Service) and on Growing Together in Holiness (Lecture). \nDate: Sat\, 23 May 2025\nTime: 7.30pm – 9pm\nLocation: Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church (TA2)\, 61 Wishart Rd\, Singapore 098716\nSpeaker: Bishop Emeritus Dr Robert Solomon \nWhat did John Wesley mean when he wrote\, “There is no holiness but social holiness”? \nHis point was that it was in Christian community that individual Christians can best grow in holiness. The lecture will explore the connections between church membership\, discipline\, and discipleship in the Wesleyan concept of church. It will also examine how Wesleyan small groups (classes\, bands\, and select societies) are meant to enhance accountability and deepen growth in holiness. We are at our best when we learn to grow together in holiness\, and there is a need to find ways of doing this well. \nThere is no livestreaming for both the lecture and the Celebration Service; these are on-site only events and we’ll strongly encourage you to attend both sessions. \nNo registration is required. \nVisit the Aldersgate website for more info \n
