SUMMARY:WSCS - Truth\, Lies and the Biblical Call of Women
DESCRIPTION:“Truth\, Lies and the Biblical Call of Women – Women are Judges\, Men are Governors” by Dr.Thio Li-ann \nAll Christians have a call and destiny\, and the Lord will judge us for how we live our lives after we were saved. In this respect\, there is often confusion regarding the role of women in the Kingdom of God and their relationship to men. \nThis seminar debunks this confusion by a deep dive into Genesis 1-3. What is God’s Word to His daughters? \nRadical feminism\, as much as male chauvinism\, is unbiblical. Women wanting a clear biblical basis to understand their call and authority within the body of believers (as well as men who hold Scripture in higher regard than patriarchal tradition)\, will find this seminar encouraging\, even provocative in grappling with what a “Ezer Kenegdo” (Gen 2:18) is and the practical implications for how to live fruitful and faithful lives. \nAbout the Speaker: \nDr. Thio Li-ann is a Professor of Law in a Singapore university where she teaches and researches constitutional and administrative law\, law and religion\, human rights law and international law. She has taught at various churches/fellowships and conducted bible studies with her law students. She is the author of three Christian books. \nRegistration closes 28 Oct. \nCost: $5 \nRegistration & Payment:\nSign up now

SUMMARY:All Saints Day
DESCRIPTION:WHAT IS IT?\nA day of remembrance for those who died in the Lord. A celebration of how the Church Militant (those still alive) and the Church Triumphant (those who have died) are alive in Christ\, as one Communion of Saints. \nWHY DO WE CELEBRATE IT?\nWe affirm our blessed hope that Christ has conquered death. Even death cannot separate us from his love\, and through Christ we remain connected with saints through time and space. \nWHO ARE THE SAINTS?\nWhile “saints” is sometimes used in the context of the heroes of the faith\, saints here refers to “all Christians in every time and place.” \nWHAT DO WE DO?\nWe never pray to the dead – prayers are always directed to God. We pray and thank God for those who have been called home to him\, seeking to emulate their godly examples. \nWhite is used as a symbol of joy. \nNames of those who died in the past year are read aloud. \nWe thank God for the lives of those who have gone before us. \nEASTER AND HALLOWEEN\nMost cultures have a day of remembrance for the departed\, but Christians have two – Easter and All Saints. Both are rooted in the resurrection of Jesus. \nRoughly half a year from Easter\, All Saints often bears the character of being a “little Easter”. \nHalloween\, observed on 31 Oct\, has roots in All Saints Day. It was originally known as All Hallow’s Eve\, “hallow” meaning “holy one” or “saint”. \nREFERENCES\n \n\nAlexander\, J. Neil. SUMMARY:Heart2Heart Mothers' Fellowship - Sacred Marriage (Session 6/6)
DESCRIPTION:Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas \nIn this 6 session video study\, Gary Thomas invites us to see how God can use marriage as a discipline and a motivation to reflect more of the character of Jesus. \nOur marriage is much more than a union between us and our spouse. It is a spiritual discipline ideally suited to help us know God more fully and intimately. \nSacred Marriage shifts the focus from marital enrichment to spiritual enrichment in ways that can help we love our spouse more. Whether it is delightful or difficult\, our marriage can become a doorway to a closer walk with God. \nEverything about our marriage—from the history we and our spouse create\, to the love we share\, to the forgiveness we both offer and seek by turn—is filled with the capacity to help us grow in Christ’s character. \nAll moms are welcome! \nThe Heart2Heart Mothers’ Fellowship meets every Friday during school term time. \nEvent and sign up details \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:CONNECT - Caregivers' Training (Session 7/7)
DESCRIPTION:This is a 7-week training by the Caregivers Alliance from 14 Sep 2024 to 26 Oct 2024. \nAt these weekly training sessions\, we will go deeper into each topic and provide handles on how to cope with caregiving and better understand our loved ones. \nTopics covered: \n1. Introduction to Dementia\n2. Understanding Dementia\n3. The Brain and Treatment\n4. Empathy and Compassion\n5. Communication\n6. Self Care\n7. Home Care for Persons with Dementia \nWho should attend? \nThe talk and training are primarily for current caregivers of loved ones with dementia. \nIf you are a volunteer who is interested in finding out more\, please contact Chong Tian at the church office at 6256 4298. \nImpact of caregiving \nMost care recipients are either the caregiver’s parent (60%) or spouse (36%). It is painful for every caregiver to see their parents or spouse becoming frail in their older years (over 80% are over 80 years old)\, needing increasing medical care. \nAccording to the WISE study in 2015\, over 33% of seniors over 80 years old have dementia. Caregivers to older seniors need support to cope with caregiving for loved ones with dementia. \nWho will support our caregivers? \nJesus calls us to love God with all of ourselves and to love others. He calls loving and caring the “least of them” as loving and caring for Him. \n“And the king will answer them\, ‘Truly I tell you\, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family\, you did it to me.” – Matthew 25:40 (NRSV) \nFor most of us\, these are the “least of them” Jesus has called us to love and care — our parents\, our spouses\, and siblings. They are “least” because they need “help in personal care\, performing tasks inside or outside the home\, and arranging for transportation and medical care to deal with a range of health problems\, illnesses or disabilities.” \nOur Lord calls His church to support our caregivers: \n“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ\, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation\, who consoles us in all our affliction\, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NRSV) \nGet in touch \n\nThe CONNECT Seniors Ministry meets regularly to G.R.O.W. – Graciously Ripen\, Overflowing with Wisdom from Above. \nJoin us and embrace the joy of growth\, wisdom\, and community.

SUMMARY:CONNECT - Caregivers' Training (Session 6/7)

SUMMARY:Heart2Heart Mothers' Fellowship - Sacred Marriage (Session 4/6)

SUMMARY:CONNECT - Seniors Singing Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thu\, 10 Oct 2024\nTime: 10am – 12noon\nVenue: Methodist Girls’ School (IGLC room) @ Blackmore Drive \nOn the second week of the month\, we call out to all seniors and their caregivers who love singing. \nAt the Singing Fellowship\, we share our reflections on our Christian life through the songs we nominate to sing together\, facilitated by a pastoral staff. \nSinging helps us explore and grow in faith both cognitively and affectively. The lyrics guide our thinking and the music inspires our souls. After singing\, we deepen our bonds of bonds of kinship\, friendship and discipleship over a shared meal together. \n\nThis event offers a chance to G.R.O.W. (Gracefully Ripen\, Overflowing with Wisdom from God) by connecting and engaging in activities with like-minded individuals. \n  \n
