SUMMARY:CONNECT - Caregivers' Training (Session 4/7)
DESCRIPTION:This is a 7-week training by the Caregivers Alliance from 14 Sep 2024 to 26 Oct 2024. \nAt these weekly training sessions\, we will go deeper into each topic and provide handles on how to cope with caregiving and better understand our loved ones. \nTopics covered: \n1. Introduction to Dementia\n2. Understanding Dementia\n3. The Brain and Treatment\n4. Empathy and Compassion\n5. Communication\n6. Self Care\n7. Home Care for Persons with Dementia \nWho should attend? \nThe talk and training are primarily for current caregivers of loved ones with dementia. \nIf you are a volunteer who is interested in finding out more\, please contact Chong Tian at the church office at 6256 4298. \nImpact of caregiving \nMost care recipients are either the caregiver’s parent (60%) or spouse (36%). It is painful for every caregiver to see their parents or spouse becoming frail in their older years (over 80% are over 80 years old)\, needing increasing medical care. \nAccording to the WISE study in 2015\, over 33% of seniors over 80 years old have dementia. Caregivers to older seniors need support to cope with caregiving for loved ones with dementia. \nWho will support our caregivers? \nJesus calls us to love God with all of ourselves and to love others. He calls loving and caring the “least of them” as loving and caring for Him. \n“And the king will answer them\, ‘Truly I tell you\, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family\, you did it to me.” – Matthew 25:40 (NRSV) \nFor most of us\, these are the “least of them” Jesus has called us to love and care — our parents\, our spouses\, and siblings. They are “least” because they need “help in personal care\, performing tasks inside or outside the home\, and arranging for transportation and medical care to deal with a range of health problems\, illnesses or disabilities.” \nOur Lord calls His church to support our caregivers: \n“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ\, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation\, who consoles us in all our affliction\, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NRSV) \nGet in touch \n\nThe CONNECT Seniors Ministry meets regularly to G.R.O.W. – Graciously Ripen\, Overflowing with Wisdom from Above. \nJoin us and embrace the joy of growth\, wisdom\, and community.

SUMMARY:CONNECT - Seniors Singing Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thu\, 10 Oct 2024\nTime: 10am – 12noon\nVenue: Methodist Girls’ School (IGLC room) @ Blackmore Drive \nOn the second week of the month\, we call out to all seniors and their caregivers who love singing. \nAt the Singing Fellowship\, we share our reflections on our Christian life through the songs we nominate to sing together\, facilitated by a pastoral staff. \nSinging helps us explore and grow in faith both cognitively and affectively. The lyrics guide our thinking and the music inspires our souls. After singing\, we deepen our bonds of bonds of kinship\, friendship and discipleship over a shared meal together. \n\nThis event offers a chance to G.R.O.W. (Gracefully Ripen\, Overflowing with Wisdom from God) by connecting and engaging in activities with like-minded individuals. \n  \n
