From a gathering of 12 schoolboys touched by the Holy Spirit in 1956, Barker Road Methodist Church (BRMC) has grown, by the grace of God, to the 3000-member intergenerational church it is now in 2026. Through seasons of growth and challenges, BRMC has grown to become a spiritual home where people of all ages worship God together, grow in Christ and serve His Kingdom in community. (Timeline)
Here’s the BRMC story in many voices:
Speaking at BRMC services over the anniversary weekend (16-17 May 2026), TRAC President Rev Reuben Ng exhorted the church to steward wisely what God has blessed us with. As he says,
“It’s easy to count the years, but it’s not easy to make the years count.”
To do this, he challenged the people to set aside time to pray “non-perfunctory prayers” and even to “plead”, as well as to sacrifice comfort and go point someone to Christ whenever the opportunity arises.
“Every heart without Christ is a mission field.
Every heart with Christ is a missioner.”
Here are highlights from Friday’s celebration when more than 400 members turned up to praise, sing, worship and share testimonies of God’s faithfulness and goodness over the last 70 years.
