“I Will Go” – Amy’s Story

29 Sep 2026

Amy Tan being prayed over during YAM Retreat 2026 in July, days before she left for Japan.

In August 2026, Amy Tan, who grew up in BRMC, began a one-year mission placement in Yamagata, Japan, under OMF Serve Asia. A Singapore Management University graduate and qualified Chartered Accountant, Amy spent nine years working in the technology and finance sectors before responding to God’s call to missions.

Amy sensed God’s call in 2023 while reflecting on Rebekah’s response in Genesis 24: “I will go.” Through missions training, short-term mission trips, Japanese language lessons and ministry experiences, God gradually gave her a burden for rural Japan.

Under OMF Serve Asia, Amy is supporting a Singaporean OMF missionary family and their ministry at Yamagata Nanbu Church, a multi-generational Japanese congregation. She helps with English-related outreach and children’s ministry, while participating in fellowship and the regular rhythms of church life.

Amy sees this year as a season of listening and learning. She is focusing on Japanese language and cultural acquisition, building relationships and learning from the local community as she discerns whether God might be calling her to longer-term ministry in Japan.

Pray and Journey with Amy

As Amy’s church family, please keep her in prayer in the following areas:

  • Amy’s walk with God
  • Japanese language learning
  • Relationships
  • Discernment whether God might be calling her to longer-term ministry in Japan
  • Adjustment to life in Japan
  • Giving

May Amy’s journey also encourage us to consider how God is calling each of us to take part in His mission—whether to go, send, pray, give or encourage.
