Barker Road Methodist Church is pleased to be hosting AldersgateSG 2026, a heritage event for Methodists.

John Wesley’s Aldersgate encounter with the Holy Spirit, where he felt “strangely warmed”, was a turning point for him as he received the assurance of his salvation. In his life and ministry, our founder cited Scripture, Tradition, Experience and Reason as the four sources of theological authority. This came to be known as the Wesleyan Quadrilateral, sometimes referred to as the Methodist Quadrilateral.

This year, the speaker for AldersgateSG 2026, Bishop Emeritus Dr Hwa Yung, will speak to us on one of the aspects of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. BE Dr Hwa Yung had served as the Bishop of The Methodist Church in Malaysia from 2004 to 2012. We hope our Aldersgate attendees, young or old, will gain valuable insight through the Aldersgate lecture and sermon, and come to appreciate the Methodist legacy even more.
