In view of the crisis in Nepal, here’s an update on what BRMC is doing and what you can do to support recovery and response efforts.

TRAC’s response

TRAC has announced this week that it will be donating S$10,000 to the Singapore Red Cross for humanitarian relief; and S$20,000 to the Methodist Missions Society (MMS) to support its relief and ministry efforts in Nepal. MMS plans to set up a Crisis Relief Management Committee in Nepal to work with local partners, based on its framework and protocol managing a similar disaster when a major earthquake struck Nepal in 2015.

In his email to TRAC churches this week, TRAC President Rev Reuben Ng reminded us that we are called not only to feel compassion for those who are suffering, but also to express that compassion in practical ways.

“At times such as this, our giving becomes a tangible expression of Christ’s love and a reminder to those affected that they are not forgotten,” he wrote. “Every gift, whatever its size, can help bring relief, hope and care to those facing great need.”

He continued: “This, however, will not be the full extent of our support for Nepal. Recovery and rebuilding take place in different stages, and the needs will become clearer over time. Once the TRAC Crisis Relief Team has assessed the situation and identified how we can most effectively assist in the later phases of recovery, we will invite our churches to consider giving further financial support. We do not want to respond only while the crisis is prominent in the news. Our desire is to stand with the people of Nepal for the longer journey of rebuilding, even after public attention has moved elsewhere.”

BRMC’s response

As part of TRAC, BRMC collected S$29,500 in a second offering in November 2025 for TRAC’s disaster relief fund (pooled from its 21 member churches). It is from this fund that TRAC is now giving $20,000 to MMS.

BRMC will not be collecting funds on behalf of MMS for now because a permit is required for fundraising towards a specified foreign cause. However, BRMC would not need a permit if we fund that foreign cause from our own designated or general funds. This, we are prepared to do out of our existing Outside Appeals budget, pending further details from MMS.

What YOU can do now

On everyone’s part, do continue to keep in prayer the people of Nepal who have suffered loss, the communities affected, and for all who are serving on the ground. May God use the combined response of our churches to bear witness to the compassion and generosity of Christ.
