“I learnt that simple acts of kindness of sharing food and chatting can bring so much joy to others.”

For 11-year-old Darren Choi, befriending an elderly guest over a meal was a highlight of serving alongside BRMC’s Outreach and Social Concerns (OSC) Ministry.

Darren was among 10 members of Phileos Connect Group (CG) who stepped forward to serve at OSC’s Christmas outreach in 2025, helping with worship, decorations, serving food and engaging beneficiaries. Five members continued the CG’s commitment at OSC’s Easter outreach for financial assistance recipients in March 2026.

Ten-year-old Jeanette Abigail Toh was initially nervous about singing and speaking with elderly guests. But an encounter with one guest changed that. “I was glad to listen to her stories and learnt how to be patient while serving others. I can’t wait to volunteer again!”

For long-time CG member Chin May Nah, serving together was a reminder of Christ’s example: “God can take even our small and imperfect acts of service and use them to bless others, and in the process bless ourselves too, when we are willing to obey and act.”

Phileos is among more than 60 BRMC CGs taking the next step in discipleship by reaching communities beyond our church walls through the Year of Release. Introduced in 2025, the initiative is an open-ended invitation for everyone at BRMC to join a CG and serve in community, spurring one another on to good works and growing in spiritual maturity.
